Just wondering where the $4,000 figure came from. Every walmart I have been at they have about 100 fish and half are belly up already.

I thought this was a conservative amount myself. Aren't you supposed to get them for ALL the damages? I mean what about the equipment? Pretty much everything that contaminated water touched is probably junk now right? From the fake plastic plants you can see in the front, to everything in the back you can't see, all junk.

That's probably it. Probably claiming the $100/hr it cost them to clean the equipment.

As I think about this and conversations I have heard on other fish forums before this incident. I wonder if is a ploy to get wallmart to stop carrying fish. I have heard people threaten worse to wallmart because of the way they keep the fish.

Crazy, honestly I thought Walmart stopped keeping fish. I haven't seen fish in a walmart here in Southern California in a couple years. When they did have fish, most of the time they were really neglected, mabe youre right.

Thats my original thought as for why. Only problem is you'd likely do more then one Walmart but maybe thats all that's in the area

Walmart tanks dont have fake plants and as mentioned, a good chunk of the fish were probably already dead.
So no idea how they arrived at 4 grand. They can put full retail though. When I worked loss prevention, people would argue they stole a 5 dollar shirt on clearance but we'd charge them with the full price before any sales

Every time we take the kiddos to wall mart and we stop and look at the fish if they behave. It is a good lesson on taking care of fish and identifying fish diseases. My 3 year old knows better than to by fish there.

I have been an animal rights activist since before I was a teenager AND I am a goldfish aquarist. I have no problem with my domesticated fish. I use no air pumps, only power heads for surface turnover. If you forward me the original text to the story I will make sure Alex and Ingred will see them. Goldfish DO have some basic rights. I have had friends of mine I grew up with who are now animal control animals write tickets to both PetSmart and Wallmart. Send your information to me and I will see it gets to the right place. For the most part I find the people of this forum to be conscientious, kind, altruistic and responsible. I am proud to be part of this community. Live feeding, just as when I worked for Sonoma County Bird Rescue is at times is necessary.
