1.5 gallon bowl stocking

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I didn't think a DG could even fit in a 1g jar tbh! That's cool man, especially that they spawned in it as well.
On a side note what would you say about sparkling gouramis/s in it? I saw a lonely one at my LFS today...

I think if you were to stock a fish, it would be a smaller gourami, Betta or even maybe pygmy corydora(2-3)

Isn't the smallest gpuramu the sparkling one? Or is it chocolate gouramis? Argh I can't remember there's too many fish to think about.

I wpuldnt want to do pygmy Cory's, I'm fairly sure they like groups of 10+ (I could be wrong).

What about a single or pair of Dario Dario?

Light is a 3.5W LED clip on lamp thing, plants are fairly fast growing (can't remember names but had them before) and I've seen slight growth over the past few days of having them.
Would a pair or single bumblebee be OK in it? Sorry if I'm sounding naïve, I've never done something like this bowl project before so its new territory for me :p

Basically the male and female are placed together, they normally spawn within a few hours. Then the female is removed after the spawn and a few days later the male is removed. Eggs are left to hatch.

bumblebee goby, the size is right. I kind of considered them slightly less hardy but could be an option

Nice I'll look into all the fish you've mentioned and see which one I like the most and which is most appropriate for the tank. Do you think I should get some substrate from my cycled tank (been set up for over a year) and out it in the bowl to help with bowls cycling?
Also I'm guessing if I had 1-2 bumblebees then I'd have to do PWCs every 2-3 days?

I think it's the sparkling(not %100 sure) at about an inch and a half, maybe even a smaller species of gourami not often traded.

I think the whole Corydoras schooling thing is a little over played.... I have never seen it any aquarium situation, maybe in the wild... I do think they enjoy the company of other Corydoras, don't get me wrong.

Dario Dario, awesome fish but tank is too small IMO

I would add some substrate, yes. Be sure to monitor water levels, especially ammonia. If your plants are actively growing, to the point you have remove cuttings from the tank; you maybe be able to do less.

After some consideration I think I'll stick with shrimp, keeping a fish (unless its the one that grows to 0.2cm or something) in this size bowl is a bit cruel.
And I don't think the fertiliser is too bad. My 2 bamboo shrimp in another tank are acting fine now after a few PWCs. It must've been a week pesticide or they removed some of it when they had them at their shop....
