1,100 dollars for cichlid food? What a waste.

thats what i though until i looked into them more.
if you think about it, youre actually paying for a 1 inch shrimp that lives for a year and dies. thats it.

You only need 2 to make a million...:) It boils down to what you get in to them for. Entertainment and just to look at them, get low grades and replace them when they expire. To have forever and potentially make some lights out specimens, invest in the proper equipment to breed them and research until the cows come home.

i dont think i have a choice for low grades or high grades. ima go with some c grade specimens or if i can find some better deals. this is the reason i bought a puny 3 gallon in the first place. how would they look in there with a better set up.
now if only i could find a light that stands vertically. note the .5mm space between the tank and the shelf.

I would put 8-12 in there and "c" is low grade. That is what I have I think. I might have "b"'s? What is making the beam of light at the to right of the pics?

my lamp and it does not look good on the fish tank. looks darker in person and reflects without a light by it.

Does it have to be all the way back against the back? The desk looks like you could move it out, without the threat of knocking it off from an elbow bump. Then you could buy a strip light. They make them for that size tank. You could grow some moss also.

yeah that would solve everything but it would look so much more compact in its little space. would tiny leds on each corner worK?

Not for plants, but for the shrimp, I think so.
