I am currently building my 8'x3'x2' pond and am trying to save money where I can, I have a 1/6 hp water pump, will this be to much power to help circulate the amost 400 gallons the pond holds?

Horsepower rating doesn't neccessarily tell you the capabilty of the pump.
What pump are we talking about ?

its almost 3x the water capacity, i mean in my tanks i go about 5x and its a big pond i think you would be ok

That's pretty terrible efficiency.

Meaning a 1/6th of a Hp to only flow 1100gph is not efficient at all. It's gonna use a lot of power and not move much water. Besides that it's not going to work anyway... I looked that up on Google and it's not meant for Aquariums.

"The utility pump is engineered for water removal in temporary applications. Water
temperature no warmer than 104°F. The utility pump is not to be used for continuous
duty or permanent installations
. DO NOT RUN DRY. The R6S utility pump should be
monitored during operation."

Stick to Pumps meant for Aquarium use. They have plenty that are designed for large tanks. I use a combination of smaller pumps on my 400g.

700gph Quiet One
700gph ViaAqua
and about 400gph worth of Powerheads with Prefilters... I think they use around 100-120 watts all combined, where as a single pump to move 1000gph will use that alone. This is why I stick to multiple smaller pumps, it's much more efficient.
