1 fx5 for 240 gallon?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i think two FX5's will do it on that tank.

I run two Fx5s on my 220. However, once when WCing I stupidly left the valves closed on one of the filters. Took my several weeks before I noticed, and the tank's clarity/water chem never changed. Also, the Fx5 smart chip shut the filter off so it didn't burn out!

Much as I love the Fx5, one thing to consider is their power consumption. 50 watts is about the highest of any canister filter. I have have 5 currently, but I'm only using 2.

I use two fx5s on my 240, planning on adding a sump this summer. The fx5s work great and keep the water very clear. I have 3x 20" silver aros, 6x peacock bass 5.5-7", and a pleco in there. I do a 30% wc every 3 days.

On my 270 I run 1 FX5 and 2 Marineland 360 and will be adding one more FX5 - 10 Dats from 6-14", 2 Pbass from 14-16", 1 Tig at 18", 2 Bichirs at 12-19", 1 Uaru at 10"
On my 265 I run 1 FX5 and 3 Emperor 400s - 6 Pbass at 12-18", 1 Ray at 14" Across, 1 FRT Turtle, 1 NGT Dat
On my 180 I run 1 Marineland 360 and 3 Emperor 400s - 1 Pbass at 18", 1 Dat at 13".
On my 180 I run 1 Marineland 360 - 1 MBU at 23"
On my 125 I run 1 Marineland 306 and 1 Emperor 400 - Only have one 3 foot Teselata Eel

All tanks will get an extra FX5 added in the next month or 2.

I run to FX5's on my 150. Your gonna need more then one. Would probally be cheapest to go sump.

I currently have an fx5 on my 120 and will be upgrading to a 240 soon. It says it can handle 400 gallons but i hear of a lot of people using multiple big canisters on a tank of this size. Am i going to be getting enough filtration when i upgrade?

I think that youp would get better ciculation from an FXf if you took the dual valve off and created a single valve output. That would direct ALL of the FX5 pwer in one direction creating WAY more turblance in the tank. If it's not a deep tank, I think that it will work fine! But the Media has to be setup right...

I have 2 FX'5 on my 180 Gallon ONLY Because I want that other ready for the another tank when it's complete. That way I won't have to cycle the tank... The Substrate is already in 2 other tanks. So the Bioload will take care of!
