1 of 3 Not Doing Well

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would definitely treat for nematodes......symptoms of capillaria for example:

Symptoms common to this particular nematode include a bulge in the lower abdomen near the vent, or Capillari worms protruding from the anus.

not to be confused with Camallanus....

So either with flubendazole or with fenbendazole?

Well, it was finally obvious tonight that the bigger bass are bullying the little one. When I fed them, they would not let the little one near the food. They are easily more than double the size of the little one. However, they are between 4-5” right now, so I’m not sure if they’re ready to go in with my fire eels and vulture cats. I might see how it goes this week and possibly move one of them over and see how it goes.

Good luck whatever you plan to do. At least it’s not sick. I may have the same problem myself with the runt orino being half the size of the largest.

I think I figured out a solution. I went ahead and moved the two larger bass into the refugium area of the sump on my big tank.

Not pretty, but it will work to let them put on another couple inches. They’re pretty stressed at the time of these pictures because I had literally just moved them. Now, the little one should be able to eat without being bullied.

Well, wanted to close this thread down. My little bass was doing very well in the days since I moved the others out of the grow out tank. However, I came home and went in to feed the bass yesterday and this is what I found:

I didn’t think the bass was anywhere near small enough to have been eaten, but I was wrong.

At first I thought it jumped out, even though the back is well covered. I looked all around and behind the tank but couldn’t find it on the floor anywhere. Then, I was glancing into the tank again and my endli came out from behind the PVC pipe with this giant bulge. I’m super bummed out about this. I really hate to see all the time and effort I put into getting this little bass healthy go to waste, and I hate to lose the bass.

I have three small cichla and when I got them they were all the same size. However, two of them have readily eaten anything I put into the tank while the third has only eaten a few red wigglers in the past few weeks.

Here are some pictures of the weak one:

Like I mentioned, they all looked the same when I got them. They are all in the same QT/grow out tank currently. I feed every night, always red wigglers and then I switch and give some Hikari carnivore pellets and shrimp pellets. The little one often goes for the pellets but immediately spits them out. I have seen it eat three red wigglers over the last few weeks, but then doesn’t seem to gain any weight with the red wigglers it eats. The tank has been cycled for over over a year and is a 29 gal tank with a SunSun 303B on it. Does anybody have any ideas why this little one is having so much trouble, and do you have any ideas of what I can do to try to help it get better?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Could be something wrong with the internals. Not necessarily any disease. I once had a perfectly good 12" Intermedia stop eating until it wasted away and died. No reason. But I concluded that food may have got stuck inside the fish. I've kept fish for over 40 years, and I have seen this a number of times.
