sorry, I have too many questions.
I thought I had decided on RBPs but I'm having second thoughts.
what do you prefer a single rhomb or a group of RBPs, and why?
or not even Ps at all because this will be my only tank and first over 20g

thanks

I think it is better for a beginer to get a shoal of pygos (RBPs) instead of a single rhom because unless you appreciate the animal for what it is its easier to get bored of a single specimen.

It seems like you are unsure if getting piranhas is what you want...

If this is the first time you get a larger tank, I assume you have never kept piranhas. Just a side note here, they are really not exciting fish, they don't do much except wait for food, and are not very interesting fish to keep...imo. Oh some people do love them, and I appreciate that, but make sure you know this is what you want before you venture with p's.

They are a pain to get rid of once the initial interesting period is passed...if you are not sure maybe you should leave those at the store and see other species? Depending on size tank, there are so many amazing fish out there.

My 2 cents

i agree, and i recommend you dont get piranhas. i was just like you a few months ago, so i got some RBPs. they were smaller than 1 inch at the time, and were very boring. i still have them, and have been trying to get rid of them for about a week now, no one is interested. i suggest getting more interesting fish, like a breeding pair of convicts. or some schooling fish

i think you should go with rbp also, cause since its your first big tank, your going to think its a waste for only a single fish.

Exadon are fun to watch. I keep them with my Pirahnas, and I've not had any trouble yet. It makes the tank a bit more diverse, even though I'm sure I'll get at least 1 PM after posting this telling me how it is a horrible idea.

To give you an honeslt opinion you should state the size of your aquarium..

anything under 55 - 77 gallons is way to small for a group of pygos

if your looking to keep 5-6 reds you WILL need a min of 77 - 86 gallons !!

if you can not affored a tank that size.. then stay with a serrasalmus species

ie serrasalmus sanchezi, or a small rhom...
