10/01/11 - New Fish : Eclipse PDR

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
they have not eaten and dont seem tempted by food...am getting very worried...looks like most of my gars are going to take a vacation...i believe they're stressing the pups out.

Congrats on the new addition! Sweet rays for sure!

I would definatly take out the rocks maybe just put alittle bit of fine gravel or sand in to help them settle down. It would be to hard for the little ones to find food with those large rocks in there, also maybe take the gars out for now and return them when the rays have settled in and put on some size.

Do my eyes deceive or is that an A. tristoechus!? If so the rays should go on a vacation.
in fact, they can come on vacation to my house :naughty:

Those rocks gotta go! Your rays would be alot happier with sand. Nice rays.

And you base that on???

Try and look at the xingu. There are many parts with rock bottom. Round stones are np.

Very nice pups. Have they eaten yet?

thanks guys. yes payara, thoes eyes don't decieve you:D i have 3 A.tristoechus.

How about 15 yrs of experience raising rays and having about 30 pups born in my living room. Good enough for you?

So because you have kept rays for 15 years means that leos cant handle rocks in captivity though they can in the wild?

Have YOU tryed keeping rays on a mix of gravel and rocks = have experince?

And the rays are eating now arnt they? ;)

It doesnt take a genius to notice that the rays spent 90% of their time on the side of the tank with SAND or BARE BOTTOM as appose to the side of the tank with gravel and rocks. I never said they wouldnt survive. I said they would be less stressed and happier with SAND! Especially pups.

I have never had that problem. :)

I have kept both hystrix and motoros on gravel. They reacted like you would expect from young healthy rays. :)

Its common for young rays not to eat when moved. Making a huge change like removing the rocks and replacing it with sand prob wont make them less stressed. :)

If his rays are doing fine on rocks/gravel, then I see no reason to change anything in the tank (say for moving the gars).
