10 Gallon Saltwater Tank (3rd Time's the Charm)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
no problem. I'm still pretty new to the salt side of Aquaria. I've been running freshwater tanks for years, but this is all still new to me. I'm just getting people's opinions on things. If you get one let me know how it is

I do like the Current USA SmartPaq light. Do they sell the fixtures too or just the bulbs? I would like to get a 20" fixture just for the extra light, but if I can find a good 18" fixture that would work just fine. I like the LEDs too, but I think the CFs would be the best for what I am wanting to do. More in my price range too.

I see I didn't pay attention when I posted that, because I thought there were fixtures. But I guess they discontinued them. The lamps are for the old Orbit line like I have, and I don't see any anywhere anymore, so you'd have to find one used if you went that route. I wouldn't be scared of one of their used fixtures, but I don't know how many people are getting rid of them since they're so sturdy and have good reflectors. I know a lot of people that actually convert the fixtures to t5 if the ballasts fail.

There is always the retrofit option if you want to go the CF route, or you could do that with t5 too. That way you could make the length you want according to what bulb lengths you can find.

I'll have to look into a used Orbit fixture. My other options were AquaticLife HO T5 or a Deep Blue HO T5 w/Actinic LEDs (if they make one in 18"-20"). Only reason I am still looking around is becasue I don't really want to spend $200+ on lighting for this small tank if I don't have to, but compared to $300+ for the Marineland RC LEDs, $200 isn't that bad

Man I love Chemiclean! Possibly the best Cynobacteria killer out there. My tank was solid red before and within 48 hours it was spotless.

And I got this small Blue Mushroom the other day from work so I can get my Mini-Reef started. My lights should be here within the next few weeks, then I can start looking at some frags!

I got some bad ass Carribean Live Rock the other day. Didn't get too much because I was limited on room, but it still looks good and I got a couple cool snails, urchins, and scallops on the rock.
