10 GALLON TANK question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you cant keep anything other than guppies in a 10gal... for 3 reds for life you need a minimum of 75gal. as for the black... i don't know about others. but i got my gold diamond rhom at 4" last march. he's know almost 7". though he is in a 75 all to himself.

if you get a piranha i would do a rhom (black piranha) or sanchezi piranaha

a black piranhas would be ok for probably 6 months to a year (if it has good conditions it will be in less then 6 months) (will grow to around 6" in the first year)

sanchezis only grow up to 6" so it would last longer but would eventually require a 30 gal long (3x1) tank or larger for life

you cant do a shoal unless you want them for a couple months (3) then you need to upgrade (assuming you only have a max of 3) but i would start with a 75 gal then get some (4 for life but can buy more and sell them as they grow)

It's a black rhombeous, they get huge. They get up to about 13-15" in captivity usually. That takes a long time though...search for them in the piranha forum, you'll see some big ones...

Most that big are bought that big or damn close. I don't think one would grow near that big from small in captivity. They grow like .5"-1" a year, but from small to 6" is very quick growth.

i got the 75 gallon tank is that big enogh!!!

That is big enough for 3-4 full size reds or terns. You can start with more until they get big and weed out which ones don't get killed and give them to a lfs or sell them.

a 75 is great for about 3 of almost any pygo species for life. it's good for reds, terns, and caribe. but piraya would need to have more space.
good luck with the new setup.

up to 4 of any pygo (caribe,tern, reds,piraya) would be good also a larrge serra (solo piranha) like black piranha (up to 12")

NOT LONG

RULE OF THUMB"

Piranhas
1=30
2=50
3=70
4=90
5=110
6=130

gallons is not what you should be looking at. Its the footprint of a tank.
A standard 75 gallon footprint is 48"Long X 18"Wide, That would be fine for 3 red bellies for a very long time if not for life. A 90 gallon footprint is the exact same only instead of the 75 gallon's height being 22", you get an extra 2'' with the 90 making it 24"H. The footprint from the 75 really doesn't change with a standard 90 or even a standard 110 gallon (26"H).

like said gallonage is more important since a 5000 gal could be 1ftx1ft x 1 mile high and couldnt keep a single piranha while a 100 gal thats 5ftx1.5ft.2ft could keep 4-5

but for standard sized tanks its a decent rule

75 for 3-4
100 for 4-5
120 for 4-6
125 for 4-6
180 for 6-8
......
remember with 4 fish in a 75 they most likly wont grow as big as if you had 3 or a solo serra (smaller bio load and more space...)
