10 GALLON TANK question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
what is rhom

You can use your 10 for a grow out tank, but I wouldn't keep them in there for long. I think I had my SINGLE RBP in a ten gallon for 2-3 weeks until my fiance bought him a nice 29 gallon. Which is fine for just him, for the rest of his life. But if I wanted to get 2-3 more, I would have to move them to the 75. You always want to try to over-filter your Piranha tank, it helps keep their water nice and clean.

If you want them to be healthy as they grow, offer them a variety of cichlid pellets AND flakes. There's days where my P won't touch pellets, and he'll eat flakes. Plus I offer grated carrots, since they float, and they're good for him. And I was feeding catfish filets, but I'm switching to Bluegill and Tilapia.

my cousin had 4 in a 10 gallon for a while. he got them at 1" and they did ok for a while (few months). It's been about a year now and he's down to one and it's like 3.5"

Yea but hes 5 inches. Rhoms usually grow around 1-2" a year, so if he had that kind of GR on his rhom he could house it for at least a year.

actually rhoms can grow 6-8" first year depending on water quality.. then after that its 1" or more a year. mine grew from 2" to 6.5" in just 7 months... i wouldnt recommend any piranaha in a 10 gallon no matter what size the piranha is.. 10 gallons is way too small

NOT TO SOUND STUPID BUT WHAT IS A RHOM

serrasalmus rhombeus (rhom for short) is another type of piranha in the serrasalmus family which cannot be shoaled in groups.

i'd recommend a 75g tank for you're 3 RBP for life. the standard rule is 20g per fish.

I wanted to know how big do red bellies get ?? how many can i house in a 24x12x12 tank... I saw 1'' rbp in a lfs.. And which is the most aggressive type ???

His water quality must suck because it should be 7" or so after a year.

Weylin: Red's can get up to about 12-13" in aquaria and have been caught wild up to 16" but most in aquaria probably 90% won't get over 10-11" or so

Out of pygocentrus species(the family red bellys or p. natteri belong to), p. caribe is the most aggressive but not usually sold everywhere like red bellys. Red Bellys are probably a better starter piranha but I wouldn't put any in a 24x12x12 unless you're planning on upgrading in a couple months because you will have problems in a few months with them not having room to swim/aggression on each other/etc. Then the size tank you're upgrading to will decide how many piranha you should keep.

That thing is 15, or 20 gallons tops. You can keep none in there if you want them to reach adulthood.

Actually the tank is empty.. I wanna find some fish to put in.. Something very aggressive.. Any ideas ?? Ill upgrade the tank or move them to my 55g tank...
