10 Jags In One Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thank you all for your coments,

The reason Y i am going with the over stocking root is that i want to have cichlids, in my tank and i dont want any of the aggression to be passed on my other fish, gars and polys. Thats y i am going to try the over stocking. Im planing to get all the fish when they are abt 10-15cms and grow them up together. When they are big enough i will put them into the tank.

With regard to the filteration, i currently have a wet/dry sump, you can have a look it it here,http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=376156
and a 1000l canister, and a 1000l internal filter. I will be adding another 1000l canister in the future.
W/C will be done two to three time a week 25-40%
Will it be enough what do you guys think will the filteration be good enough?

just remember cichlids are prone to hole in the head... not a pretty disease..too many in one tank causes stress and that ugly disease pops up ...

Thank Liz , i will not let it get to that stage , if my filter system cant handle it i will stop! and give away/re-home the fish.

I dont think its k to have a pet if you cant take care of it properly, if i cant provide good water condition for the fish i will not keep them.

Why tankbust with a group of JAGS?!?!?!FLip it into a shoal of Red Belly Piranha......

Piranha compared to Jaguars:

They are much cheaper than Jaguars.........

Way more "BALLZY" type of fish.......

Are naturals at being predators, ESPECIALLY in groups........

The thought of having a group of Jaguars in a tank less than 300g is a person that fits the characteristic of a piranha keeper...........

I don't know how well a school of piranha would do with the gars and bichirs he also is going to have in there. ;)

Dont do it, not a good idea at all

Try 80% three times a week. No amount of filtration will reduce the catastrophic level of nitrates you'll have. EPIC water changes will be the only thing keeping your fish from being in a toxic sludge.

I was aware that overstocking of this kind is a common strategy for African cichlids. Are you sure its recommended for enormous New World cichlids? These species evolved under vastly different conditions. Just because it works for one does not mean it will work for the other.

How often in the wild would 10 Jaguars share a space that size? You're forcing them to endure an existence that is contrary to their nature so you can have an "interesting" tank.

You forgot: Ugly as all hell
and: Jags aren't sissys.

Most piranha are big sissys. They school for protection.

I wouldn't do ten jags but 5 cichlids of similar size could work.

Thanks, the only way to find out is to try.

Well im planning to start of with 10cichlids and see how it goes from there, i most possible will bring down the number of fish if i see it becomes a problem.

This has become a very interesting topic. Alot of views.
