i hate having to bump this up.. but i made what i think may have been an awful mistake..

so i was cleaning it, talking on AIM and facebook and watching a movie, just kinda enjoying the afternoon. i realized then what a stupid mistake i was making.. ive been cleaning the tank with "cinch" and "kaboom".

so is this tank totally screwed? is there anything i can do?

i was going to do some resealing tomorrow, but looks like i probably wont if its totaled.

Those should be fine for removing mineral deposits. Just flush the tank out with a hose real good

Okay...if you want to redo the silicone thats up to you...but I will warn you that its usually not the prettiest the fist time you do it. That being said...you will probably end up HAVING to do it sooner or later in the hobby...so if you want a cool little DIY then go for it.

On another note, the chemicals should be fine...just rinse it out well, and I would let really warm water sit in it...as it cools dump it. Repeat 3x. - Foolproof.

ok, thanks everyone!

im digging out the silicone tonight, got my gun thing, silicone, and acetone for well below any price ive found online or in a LFS.

care for pictures when its done?

Lowe's carries aquarium glue (100% sillcone, 100% safe, whit no anti - milduw additives) in a squize tube, over by the paint. It cost under 4 $. You can get a caulk tool that cuts the old stuff out clean and the same tools is used to smooth out the new caulk, around 5 $. It will give you a real looking job. I redone a 29 gal with one tube and the tool and it was a much nicer looking job than the tank had when it was new.
Good luck!!
This is the tank.

actually got it today! i got the clear (tank already had clear) but it doesnt have any of the mold additives or anything.

just did my acetone cleaning, will probably do the vinegar next, then bring it inside to inspect really good, do some more rinsing, then reseal. i hope to have it resealed by friday.

and the good news, i ordered my air pump and filter today! does it always feel this good to start up a new tank?

It just keeps getting better with each tank!

awesome! i just resealled all the vertical cracks. will probably do the horizontal ones tomorrow.

i feel like i didnt do enough, but i did just about as much as what was there.. keep your fingers crossed, guys! :headbang2
