thx! weve been trying to solve the water issue of this pond for years now. today, were back at stake 0...the tilapias have reproduced frenetically over the past 3 years since we last cleaned it. Its an infestation, and the water is now terrible due to their high bio-load, detritus etc...something like shreks swamp
im really grateful for all the awesome replies, incentive & ideas. right now me and friend leo, were brainstorming the best way to filter it...if any.
IMO
1. we separate the tilapias to the left side of the pond, and leave the rest for our beloved fish. This way, we can still have them feeding on the tilapias (a renewable food source) and not have too much detritus all over the pond.
2. we remove the poo & dead leaves oursevles by using a gardening rake coated with a very fine threaded lace or mesh
itl be tyring work, but inexpensive and effective
