i thought this was impossible due to the fact that aequidens can only cross with other aequidens???

Regardless of the definition of "specie" I've seen some pretty bizarre cichlid crosses; Dimidichromis sp. x Pseudotropheus sp., Herichthys sp. x Thorichthys sp., for example. A large male Saum hooking up with a small female dovii would not in the least surprise me.

but thats kinda like saying an oscar could breed with a sevrum. i though crossing aequidens was impossible just like o's and uarus. some species are crossable and some arent right??? im so confused.

I'm with you bud....Those marking look NOTHING like a gt...I think out of all of us, fishfarm has probably seen the most dovii, and probably had seen a tank full of stressed out ones like the op posted. The weird looking the to me is the vertical bars. these dovii are just super stressed. they are probably in bad water....

as far as im concerned they look like dovii. i could be wrong, but they seem to be stressed juvie doviis.

is it true that aequidens cant cross though?

The squiggles can be normal.. here is a pic of my female and she has the squiggles on her face, although they were blue for a while.

i've seen my share of dovii's before and it is a dovii but its mix with something which i'm not sure so i don't want to guess and get this more confusing...originally i looked at the pic and thought it was mix due to the wide body...i don't ever recall juvi dovii's having a wide body...just my 2 cents...:)
