100 Gallon glass and hardwood tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Alright....I resiliconed all the seams inside the tank, then covered them with several layers of the tape overlapping seams and all that.....put a temporary center brace just to fill it up and see how much it will take, going for about 18 inch of water, which I think will give me about 80 gallons.
I got that piece of driftwood from the bay here in northwest florida. Saw it one day and tryed to break a branch off of it and couldnt, so a week later I brought my hatchet with me, it was a mile hike to the spot, and it weighs a good bit.
My RES rosa will pretty tired of living in a file folder box....water is going in.

I'll explain the filter system after I get it full of water........

Good luck. Hoping it works so that you'll finish the tank. I think some quarter round around the windows will help hide the silicone.
If everything works will you sand and stain it or paint it black?

Quarter round is definately in the building process...but that is after i stop this damn leak...it was my fault, when I siliconed the left window in, i noticed there just wasnt enough silicone oozing out, but i left it anyway,,,,CRAP! filled it up to 18 inches(81 gallons) and I just had the one leak...so i drained it, took that individual panel off, cut the glass out, cleaned it all up, resiliconed and it is drying right now, I will reinstall and tape it up tonight as well as put my overflow and filter system in. more pics to come.....hopefully rosa can hold off a few more days, plus i just picked up 2 more RES's for free on CL, the deal closer was a 10 gallon tank, hob filter and heater, not so much the turtles, but when I build the 400 gallon community, they will be just fine

Oh yeah, fill in all gaps, sand, prime and paint flat black all around

Well, still sitting here putting the system together in my head and how the tank should be decorated and stocked....

Here is what I would like to do...I would like to build a cave system, and basking spot behind the driftwood out of 60 year old red bricks that have been outside forever and seperate the tank in to two distinct areas. I would heavily decorate with fake plants siliconed into the holes of the bricks. I would like Rosa the RES to be the main attraction, while 3 dozen ghost shrimp, and 2 breeding families of convict cichlids provide the constant supply of live food. Would all this be possible in a 120 gallon with 80 gallons of water. Plenty of eyesight obstructions and hiding places for the cichlids and shrimp.....

While all the silicone is drying this evening, I will stage the tank to see how it will look. Pics coming.....

I don't believe the shrimp will last with the convicts. Cloning Crayfish might be an option, but even they will be suspect. If you are planning on using bricks, I would put some in the water and test what they do to your water parameters (maybe even in just a bucket. Better to be safe than sorry.

Well, finshed all the stuff listed above and it leaked it the back left corner, going to drain and seal one more time, this time i wont take the whole panel off., i<ll just reaplly another layer of tape overlapping and such....

As crazy as it sounds, while I was checking the tank and adding a few screws here and there, the leaking has stopped!!! Hopefully when I get up in the morning I will still have a dry floor.

awesome!!
..im rooting for this to work!
