100 Gallon glass and hardwood tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nice, so you didnt use a cement backer for yours? What did you do for the corners and seams?

No cement backer. I applied silicone on the corners and seams. I couldn't get hardiboard around here. Otherwise I would've used it too for the same reason.

so, there are a few that lasted without hardi and a few with hardi....

$50 bucks to waterproof a tank, alot better than the $ people are paying for epoxy and such.

My tank has been running in garage with all kinds of temperature changes for well over a month now, its coming in this weekend

Well, as all you know quite well, life gets in the way of the hobbies. The tank is still holding water, I have the trim put on and caulked ready to paint. IT WILL GO IN THE HOUSE TOMORROW!!! I am in the process of setting up the temp tank while i move the stand and place the new tank. Not much room in the dining room, so I have to be creative....again.

Question:
If I use the current water and filter system from the old tank(s) to the new tank, then the system is established, right?

great job mate considering all the setbacks, looking foward to seeing it trimmed.

Using old tank water serves no purpose, the beneficial bacteria is in your filter system ,
just get the tank emptied and refilled indoors as quick as possible as the bacteria in the filter begins to die off when it has no water flowing through it.
Cheers

Pic Update....

First couple coats of primer on the tank and light hood.

The light hood, I will install 2 30 inch aquarium hoods(20 watt) and 2 100 watt daylights, hopefully that will be enough light to grow some plants in the trough I am making to sit on the 3d background.

Here is one side of the filter towers. Just a 't' coming off the pump from sump to trickle through the drip tray with filter media(scotch bright white scrubbies) into a 7 gallon trash can then back to the sump. Both sides will be the same except different filter media.

I ended up installing a kinda-bottom drain. I will put a 3/4 ball valve so I can attach a hose to do water changes. Should have a collection of solids here as well, which will be purged during my water changes.

Here is the over flow strapped off and a piece of clear tubing extending up the height of the tank, per wifes request :)
