OK...I know that this question has been asked a million times before...but here goes...I have just acquired a 100 gallon tank and was thinking of making it an African Cichlid tank...I'm going to have plenty of filtration (Rena XP4 and two 80 gallon rated HOB's)...substate will be smaller grade gravel...for decor I will have rocks with plenty of hiding spaces and a few fake plants....at the moment I already have a couple of Red Zebras that I want to put in the tank...so my question would be:

What other African Cichlids can I put in the tank...and how many of them ? And should I put them in all at once ?

Any and all suggestions would be appreaciated...and thanks in advance !!!

You hit the nail on the head bro...more color...looking mimic a salt water tank...and I have seen pics of some African tanks that do just that....something I forgot to mention in my main post (and not sure if it's relavant)..is the fact that have 11 tanks running right now for a few years..all cichlids tanks ecept for my 40 gallon with my Elephant Nose...so proper maintenance is not an issue.

If you're goin for color, peacocks and haps are the way to go. Adult males tend to be the most diverse and brightly colored. and you don't really need to add all the fish at once, just make sure there are plent off small nooks and crevices for smaller fish to hide in.

Well...after some research...I think I have decided to go with a Mbuna tank...for a couple of reasons...1) I already own 2 that I want to put in the tank... LOL 2) My LPS that I use has a good variety of them in 3 sizes (small, med and large).

Now considering that the 2 that I already have are about 2 to 3 inches in size I'm opting to buy medium sized tank mates...how many should I put in there as to not overly over-stock the tank and still cut down aggression ?

Wanted to also mention that the Rena XP4 that I will be using will be new and not cured...but the 2 HOB's that I will putting in will be from a healthy well established tank (over 2 years old) in order to jump start the cycling process.

So...how many do you think guys ?

Is the tank cycling now?

You've got the zebras so def. stick w/other mbuna. Stocking amount should have adult size figured, even though some may never reach that size.

When introducing new fish, QT in another tank first. I like to feed my other fish while the new ones are acclimating. Then, when it comes time to add the to the tank, I will turn off the lights. I don't know if this helps, but it works for me.

do what i did, this is my show tank i do what ever i like, your going to look at your tank every day,you should do what you like....took me to 20 years to learn about African Cichlid's,still learning....:D good luck!

Well guys...have done a complete turn-around on what I'm thninking of putting in the new 100 gallon tank...tell me what you guys think:

2 Severums, 2 Juraparis, 2 Firemouths and 1 Pleco

Ya think that will work ?

Also...was just wondering..if instead of the 2 Firemouths...would I be able to put my 2 Zebra Africans ?
