100% water changes will not harm your fish, filter, or anything else. That notion is pure nonsense. As as longtime discus keeper, massive daily water changes is a common practice, and a absolute necessity to raise very young discus without stunting their growth.

i used to change 100% water when i started fish keeping, although it is bad for beneficial bacteria build up/cycling, none of the fishes gone bad. I think it is ok to do it once if your water is really dirty(dirty water will kill your fish), make sure to use water conditioner during water change.

yeah right now my koi grow out and my 125g are both bare bottomed. i don't gravel vac I simply net out the waste. then do a regular wc. which is far easier to do off of my siphon by the sump rather than using a gravel vac.
