$1000 For a 12'' Piraya?

I was just looking through the classifieds and saw a guy offering a 12'' Piraya for $1000. I can buy multiples of the same fish delivered for around $200.

I understand pet shop prices are inflated as it is but I can't see anyone paying a grand for that particular fish.

So, if you had unlimited funds, would you pay that much for a Piraya?

the most ive payed for a 4 incher is 200, i would rather grow it out, if it had great coloration and nice fins and was a real showpeice i might pay that. but growing them out is cheaper and its fun.

It would have to be a very specail Piraya for me to pay that much for I would much rather buy a small one and grow it out

I agree completely! I'd rather raise one from a baby and know without doubt he's had the best possible care since a baby. I grew my 5 out from 1'' and they're pushing around 14'' now.

if i had to spend $1K, I would buy another tank/Filter/stand and a juvi 3-4 inch for $1000

How long to raise a from 1 inch to 14 inches, you got pictures of that 14 inch fish, near a ruler?

$1,000 with the tank and filter and heaters and a year supply of shrimp and fish and free tank cleanings and 3 free nights in vegas? Yeah i'd do it.

Very true. One can buy many things for a 1000 bucks. That's why I said I understood price vary
Due to many things...such as the item itself, a persons income, liabilities, supply and emand is a big one. I myself would not pay 1000 for a fish bc I'm not working. But when I was workin, I was on the hunt for a piraya for yrs....I just got 2 a few monthes ago and love them....the colors are 2nd to none, I just love pirayas period.....and I went thru hell and high water to get the fish, a lot of time n effort n money. But I said in the forum, the 1000 is the ballpark bc I had to put a price on there. I don't expect the 1000, but close to for a 12"+ piraya for sure. No worrys if I keep him....that only means my reds get a little more punishment then wanted, but eh, they come a dime a dozen.

even multiple (>2) smaller ones would be hard to find for $200 ...
