1000g w/ Spray Paint on it...can it be done?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would purchase it for a little less money and deal with it. If its 2 inch acrylic great, my worry would be that it is scratched like crazy and is going to need allot of work.

If its been for sale for a year you can definitely get it cheaper, especially if it was left there abandoned by previous owners. Walk in with cash in hand at your price and see what they say. Just tell them there's a lot of work to remove the paint, buffing it and you don't even know if it holds water. All nice reasons to drive the price down.
I would not even worry about the paint, it will come off much easier than you think. Wish it was local to me.

Yeah, since it's been for sale for quite some time, I bet he will be somewhat flexible with the price; I wouldn't offer full asking, but if he holds firm, I still say $4,500 is not a bad deal....considering one 8'x4' sheet of 2" thick acrylic costs over $3k (retail). This tank requires 5 sheets ($15K+ in material alone).

Pretty much guarantee that if you were to get a quote for this size tank using 2" acrylic it's going to come out to over $15K.

Please keep us posted Knobhill...I'm curious how this will turn out. Hope to see a new build thread soon :headbang2

I bet on any thing..the guy who has it up for sale is young....look at the pics...witch means if you walk up with 2thousand cash he would not turn it down..try trading it for something..it's all about the barter now a days..my pitches would be..no filter, no lights, not sure if it holds water, going to cost hundreds..maybe a thousands to get it cleaned"professionally"and if i do get the tank i have to rent a fork to move it..in the end I'm looking at over 2 thousand just to get it cleaned and in place..not even up and running......and bam..you have your tank for half price or trade

Only issue I see is he has it in storage on his own house, so else he really wants it gone he hasn't got much need to go lower price wise. Maybe his a nice person though lol.

I notice with these big tanks its always buyer wants it as cheap as possible seller wants as much money back as possible lol.

I would aim more for 3k thats already a bargain. like said above 1 side of this tank is worth more then 5k alone.

Anyways I did some reading last night when I couldnt sleep on getting spray paint off acrylic

http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1691338

^ you should read that, someone had the back of there tank painted blue with kryon fusion spray paint, never finished it but they have lots of ideas.

seems the other option is a citrus based scrubber, some lad got spray paint on his acrylic bath tub and used this to get it off.

From reading seems getting the paint off is piss easy, the issue is scratching the crap out of the tank theres also a lot of people giving warning not to use x product as it can eat the acrylic.

I'm still trying to see if it is even feasable to put this tank on my property. I was out last night measuring all possible spots to put it, lol. So far, I haven't found the right place....
