I didn't literally wear out the drill, but I went through a couple batteries lol. The float switch turns that small pump on that pumps the water to drain.

IMO you should have installed the float valve higher up in the sump to allow for more water volume in the sump.
I can move it by adjusting the levels on the switch or just raise the entire switch assembly. I just hooked it up this way to begin with and I'll probably move it a few times before I get it where I want it. Right now the lowest level is about 10" and the highest it gets is around 14-15".
