I'm not the fish police...but obesity may be linked to fatty liver syndrome.
Fatty infiltration of the liver has been designated as being one of the most common metabolic disturbances and frequent cause of death in aquarium fishes. The connection between excessive lipids and fatty liver disease has been common knowledge in the aquaculture industry for many years. The Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences at the University of Florida again recently confirmed this in a study involving African cichlids as test subjects.
There is a big difference between a fat fish and a muscular toned fish.

I think their build has keep their aggression levels lower because my male would take over the my 240g himself. I just sold my smaller pair so the my big boy can pair up with my small female.
Great fish though, Dovii are very special fish.
I do not think the aggression level has anything to do with the build of the fish, dovis have different personalities...........mine is not a monster, some of the other ones you see here are ferocious.
My fat guy just takes life one day at a time, he knows he is going to get fed, a lot, and he is pretty mellow.
I have new question, maybe should start a thread..........but anyway. I have 6 large clown loaches, between 6 and 8 inches long, in with my dovi. They have pleny of hiding places but I would hate to lose them if my dovi goes crazy one day. I have had the clowns for almost 4 years, do you think the inevitable will happen and the dovi will eventually get them or will they be able to coexist? They have bee together almost year but as the dovi grows he could eventually kill them.
Modest Man, the guy with the 600 gallon tank and the huge dovi, was there anything else in that big tank, would that fish allow any bottomfeeders?
My dovii, even the big ones, have always tolerate plecos and the like.......plenty of room and cover though (of course).

How long might you suggest for the fasting period.........if I do not feed that guy everyday he riots.............tears the tank apart. I feed him now because he scares me.......

Maybe a fasting period ain't such a good idea then
Seriously, the worms have been known to increase fecundity and viability in female fishes by more than 50% in some cases. That should be the trick to get viable fry from the pair, unless of course there is some other underlying fertility problem.
