112g clown loach grow out tank journal

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm not that well versed in which plants are toxic for animals but if pothos won't work for you then perhaps peace lillies or some form of bamboo?

Also, you could easily turn your waste water to almost 0% by getting a large trash can and using it to do water changes. You get a second length of tubing, use that to drain the tank, fill the trash can up, treat it, pump it into the fish tank. For a bigger aquarium I'd get a stock tank which s what some farmers give their horses to drink out of.
Also since time is a constraint I'd get a nice 2" or 3" wide length of tubing so you can really drain the water nice and fast. The wide hose for draining and a smaller 1" diameter hose for sucking up waste and whatnot would be a good combination.

This process works well for me and I will be continuing to do it when I get my 200+ gallon tank.

Good suggestions, fish. Will think on those.

Sorry about not updating. The COVID-19 is putting a strain on everything in my life from personal, hobby and the job. Shopping and going to different stores just for the week because this and that is cleaned out. It put a crunch on my free time between the cats and the job. Jeez people have lost their minds. This tank has taken to the backburner focusing on the other 3 tanks up and running. Stopping at petsmart and petco (yeah stores are out for the 2 i stopped by to check if any in stock of seachem stability). Just got new supply of stability in this morning. The Nitrate test kit is running low now so gotta go back and order some online.

Lost a loach to skinny disease yesterday in the QT this time was able to remove before other fish ate it. It was skin and bones gill plate was in good conditon no red to it nor its mouth was red. Everyone else seems to be fat and happy.

This test results and picture of the tank was from March 12th the driftwood on the left side had biofilm growing on it while the right side not much.

Will take pictures again tomorrow when I get home.

Added seachem clarity the day before the picture of the cat on top of it to see if it really worked. It did not work whatsoever. It made it more clouded

Thanks for the update. Yeah things are crazy right now. I was at the store Sunday and it was busy but not many shelves were Empty m went to a different store tonight and there were a lot of empty shelves.

Are you planning on doing a deworming regiment for the tank? I'd be worried if one died of skinny disease. There the levamisole and general cure/prazi treatments. There also was a thread in the disease section about Epson salt pellet soaking for internal parasites but I haven't personally tried that.

Have you considered using a small pump to push the water to the drain instead of using the siphon water attachment on the python?
Would save a lot of wasted water going down the drain.

If you were only doing a water change, no substrate vacuuming You can get simply use an appropriate power head or pump to push the water to the drain.
If you did need to vac you can use the python as normal first then switch to the pump to remove water for the water change.
It would save from running water down the drain for the entire time.

I have a sump, so for me I just plumbed in a Tee with a valve I can open and the return pump removes the water.

Bad news. Lost a clouded archerfish yesterday and then another one this morning between my double shifts. Now to 6. In that 40g breeder tank. Wondering if it is from aggression from one as there was one keeping the others at the other side of the tank. Everyone else seems to be thriving. No tetra losses in the clouded archerfish tank.

Ran out of nitrate liquid test kit. Wonderful timing for COVID thing and Amazon kept listing nitrite not nitrate to purchase. Driving me bonkers so ordered from Chewy and will be stopping at the store to see if any test strips in stock as ammonia and nitrites were reading at zero yesterday and today in all tanks. Another possible cause of archerfish death is the heater it seems water is getting into it with condensation forming in the heater screen however didnt want to put in another bigger watt used heater and risk frying up the tank as its unknown if its a malfunctioning heater or not when I am away at work now pulling a triple shift no thanks to the COVID situation. Wont be off until 330pm tomorrow as am on break as I type this.

Made progress with the tank during lunchtime and decided to just put the plants down to encourage root growth. Floaters are thriving. Alage growth is present on sand on the walls so cleaned it up a bit. Will move around when more driftwood comes in later its not on my priority right now. Hooked up FX4 and the Fluval E300 heater has been hooked up 2 days ago. Might flip the heater back to vertical with the new current flow available. Air pump will be installed this weekend. Did doses of prime and stability and the matrix was added to the Fx4.

Lets see if the Fx4 clears up the tank. Shouldnt have tried clarity.

This weekend goals:

Air pump/stones put in
Test water parameters again if can source strips and also if nitrate comes in earlier than ancipated. (Chewy warned long delays due to COVID n high demand of pet parents ordering)
Catch the congo tetras from the 55g and put in there as testers.
Get driftwood off the slates theyre anchored in. They are waterlogged at this point.

Waters crystal clear as cleared up overnight thanks to the Fx4 and scored a master test kit at petsmart. They were fully stocked at last. The state of IL is now shelter in place starting tomorrow at 5pm. I got a traveling letter from my job in case. This COVID thing will pass. We will conquer this everywhere across the world.

Now my freetime has begun now.

Empty and going to be tested then have fish in it
