:nilly: U DID NOT JUST SAY U COULD BUILD A 12' TANK!!
:nilly: I wish i hadnt started my caiman build now. well a little... lol
I had been wanting a very odd tank and u seem to be a affordable builder.
120" long 7" wide and 12" tall. yes i know very odd. lol. You think u cold build that?
Stay in contact!! When i get some more money built up i might contact u. long drive though. lol.

Cool build! I love the idea of double layering the bottom.

Almost all the tanks here in the Philippines are built using "thin" glass.

Some examples from builders in Manila:

That 120x7x12 would be quite easy actually. I could hook you up with a really good price, because all of the pieces required to build that tank would normally end up in scrap dumpster at my work. We only keep cut-offs from larger sheets that measure more than 28" in width, so alot of the glass i get would have ended up as trash otherwise.

I've actually contacted you a couple times through craigslist about tanks. Sorry I haven't been able to follow through with actually having one made yet. Maybe in the new year I'll be able to have something made.

You can make anything up to 12' long, and 18" high, right? How wide can you go, up to 108"? Or is 18" as wide as you go?

I was thinking something like 10'x2'x18", or 10'x3'x18"...

I havent really tried to push my limits on width yet since im only using 1/4" glass. I know technically i should be able to go wider and still have a decent safety rating but it still makes me a little nervous. I know 18" wide and tall works, so thats what ive been sticking with lately. I would love to hear more imput if anyone has more knowledge about water pressure on glass.

According to Garf.org, you can build a 96"x48"x18" (LxWxH) out of 1/4" glass. As long as you brace it correctly, and don't go over 18" tall, I think you can pretty much do any length x any width.

I figured that too, but it just seems almost unbelievable. I just dont see how that much water could be held with 1/4" glass. Maybe i will give it a try and test it in my garage, so if it busts it wont be a huge deal.

Yah, you could probably build it 19-20" tall, and fill it 18" and still be ok. Otherwise build it to 18" and only fill it 16-17".

I may try to get some pricing for a tank from 96x36x18-120x36x18 from you, if you're brave enough to try building it. I could give you a hand to make it easier, since we're both in Louisville.
