6-7'' is the same max size on a male con. I had a male that was that big, but he was 15 years old. Most people on here don't have cons or other cichlids that long.
my salvini must be 7" or so now and thick. crazy little predators
the only pic i have with him on a ruler was back in oct. 2010 but hadn't had them that long and only measured 5". didn't weigh and measure on the last tank move
its crazy the male i didn't breed is a lot bigger then the one that did.
He died a little while back and I had him ten years. Posting him was just to show an example that every now and then, one out of a million fish might grow freakishly larger than the normal ones. And yes I change 70% of my water with an extremly thourough sand vac once a week. Often I'll even do a quick poop vacuum midweek if I feel it's necessary.

100% agree...including me. I had a GT eight years before he died and kept a convict ten years. I still have one of the first fish I ever got, a big striped rapheal catfish. I hope my Festae live another ten years.
Here's my male that is around 8.5". He's by far the largest I have ever seen. I guess one could get larger but I'm just not seeing 12" one as very likely

This is a big beautiful fish but it doesn't quite look like a Salvini? Looks almost dovii like.
Those of you who have had 7" plus salvini, how long had you kept them to get that big?
I have a couple males right now that I have had for about a year and they are pushing 6. I try and do about a 50% water change weekly and feed em Hikari Cichlid Gold with some massivore once and a while. I'm in it for the long haul with these guys!
