Nice looking tank, one question on the SW, don't jacks get like huge? I caught a Silver jack off Key West and that thing had to be a good 2 foot long.

the advantages of black silicone are as follows:

1. looks much better (at least many aquarists think so)
2. does not show algae
3. does not stain with blue medications
4. some say black silicone bonds longer

because of this, the seals on a black silicone tank always look new. even years down the road.

clear shows algae that is difficult to remove so you can tell the tank is not new.

however, sometimes it costs more to have a tank built with it. in my case, the $40 extra was nothing considering the tank was $480 Canadian plus tax to begin with..

well worth the small cost increase.

I just checked in on this thread after not keeping up with it for a few months. I was disappointed to find that you decided to get rid of your lemon fin barbs. I was wondering what the reason was that you decided to get rid of them? Was it only because you thought their fins didn't look as good as they could have or was there something else? Were they nipping each others fins? I was looking forward to them getting bigger, like the two you had previously....

so was I. however, they were all chewed up, and not very colourful like the ones I had previously. I wish I could had had 4 big ones like the ones I had previously, but these 4 were not measuring up. they were rather dull looking to be honest.

also, and this is a big one, they were so super skittish (my other ones were not at all).

when you walked up to the tank, they freaked out and smashed into the heaters, filter intakes etc.

problem is, when these fish became 18" monsters, this would result in some seriously banged up fish..

it would not have been fair to them. if they were quiet like my other pair, no problem

but this group was certainly not.

with the new barbs, when you walk up to the tank, they all come up begging for food.

no freaking out, no splashing water, no injured fish.

this basically means that I will be able to keep the fish in perfect condition, rather than cramped and banged up like what the lemon fins would have likely ended up being when they got huge..
