120 gallon stocking

Isn't a 4 x 2 tank too small for the larger upper jaws and for lower jaws? I have a 3' x 18" tank and it is definitely going to be too small for the Teug and right now I feel like even my Del is getting close to pushing it for swimming space.

Can't picture it being great to have a 20 inch fish in a tank that small.

I would think it would be better to have more of the smaller UJs. Like Senegal, Delhezi, Polli, Palmas, Mokelembembe....

I think Severums would be a good cichlid choice!
I'll definitely being adding a severum them got a breeding pair of them in another tank and some fry about 4inch. Any other compatible fish with bichirs other than cichlids I'd prefer to stick with predator fish. I shouldn also add that I've a 6inch Raphael catfish aswell that I would like to add but don't need to.

Ctenopoma Acuti.... The leopard bush fish or spotted bush fish or spotted Cteno....

They are really cool, predatory, and also African.
they definitely look interesting. What about a black ghost knife fish I've always liked the look of them.

Someone else will have to answer if they could do OK in a tank that size. You definitely could look at African knives which are less reclusive and smaller.

Have you already purchased your tank? Is there anyway you can go to the 125 which has a longer foot print? It would open up your stocking a little more.

Actually having a 2' wide tank is really good for LJ, even if the tank lenght is only 4', a 150g is 5x2x2
And a 180g is 6x2x2 so only difference is lenght.
Ive seen people here have a 20"+ poly in a 2' wide tank, even if the poly grows to 22" beast it still have that 2" to stretch its body straight and have enough room to turn around.

I'm not worried about the 2' wide part but the 4' long part.... ?
I know what you mean, I have the 8' tank and even when a 16" poly decides to be skittish and dart you hope it has the room it needs.

But I guess I would be tempted too. Lower jaws are hard to resist. I think if I were to do this tank I would just do a single big poly like an ornate or endli and a big oscar and be pretty content. If the footprint were a 18" wide but 72" long 125g then I think I would feel more comfortable with a few more lowers. My concerns are more territorial in nature with a bit more space to run if needed. I had tried keeping lower jaws in a 4' 75 qt tank and there were always issues.

No purchased yet but can only fit a 4' long tank in the space unfortunately
