Could try some severums and upper jaws. Easier to handle in a 4 ft tank.
+1 unless if he can start off with a 9"-10" WC del, retro, palmas palmas and palmas polli, then he can have a oscar, but oscar is a pig when it comes to eating so it will be a challenge to feed them, unless he want to feed during lights out.So I guess then the question toHarryfor54 is, do you want a single lower jaw who is really cool to look at but less active, or several upper jaws, who might be less impressive but you could keep a group and they'd be more active?
I have a WC Delhezi that looks as close to a lower jaw as you can get for an upper jaw, so that might be a nice compromise.
The same goes with cichlids - you could choose a larger single fish or a few smaller ones.
If you want an Oscar, you should probably forgo the upper jaws, though. Right peeps?
Severums are a great ideaIsn't a 4 x 2 tank too small for the larger upper jaws and for lower jaws? I have a 3' x 18" tank and it is definitely going to be too small for the Teug and right now I feel like even my Del is getting close to pushing it for swimming space, and she's only 10.5".
Can't picture it being great to have a 20 inch fish in a tank that small.
I would think it would be better to have more of the smaller UJs. Like Senegal, Delhezi, Polli, Palmas, Mokelembembe....
I think Severums would be a good cichlid choice!
Well said.I know what you mean, I have the 8' tank and even when a 16" poly decides to be skittish and dart you hope it has the room it needs.
But I guess I would be tempted too. Lower jaws are hard to resist. I think if I were to do this tank I would just do a single big poly like an ornate or endli and a big oscar and be pretty content. If the footprint were a 18" wide but 72" long 125g then I think I would feel more comfortable with a few more lowers. My concerns are more territorial in nature with a bit more space to run if needed. I had tried keeping lower jaws in a 4' 75 qt tank and there were always issues.
Even the faranah endli turns around?I like dmds suggestion of a single lower jaw and an oscar. I think that would be a good mix and the bioad wpuld be somewhat manageable.
I like the the 4x2 foot print better for lower jaws than the standard 150/125 gal (72x18) bigger always better but the two 2' depth gives them more room to turn where i dont think the majority of lower jaws are going to be as active as we think. Out of all the lower jaws ive kept the only one that is actually active meaning it swims from left to right often is ine of the congicus and sometimes the koloton.
We really never know tho op could end up witha fish thats active or lazy lol
Never had an active endli and most of the others just lounge around. If anything they turn around and reposition themselves way more than they swim.
Even the faranah endli turns around?![]()
