I'm thinking about getting a redtail or a shovelnose maybe, but my tank I'll have for them is a 120g... I'm not thinking about upsizing anytime soon from that and I was curious if that's a large enough tank. I know these things are monsters, but how large do they grow in a home aquarium? The tank mates would be a Redtail Payara I'm getting tomorrow (who is only 3 inches long currently), a Silver Gar, small pleco, African Featherfin Catfish, and maybe another catfish from my 55g, I haven't decided yet. Also three Silver Dollars that are very large and a Tinfoil Barb might be in there until the Payara grows then they'd be in my 80g.. Nothing but the Tinfoil and Silver Dollars are any bigger than half a foot currently.

So my main question, would the 120g and the above tank mates work for one of those catfish? Might be a noob question, but I've always found both those cats to be awesome..

Nope sorry even gettin a small one he would out grow it within 8 months at most. And would deffintley eat all of your tank mates stick to smaller stuff and maybe go for a sun cat instead

Alright thanks guys, I thought so I just wanted to make sure. Sun cat is an interesting idea, I'll look into that! I just like a variety of catfish and like I said, those two have always interested me so I thought I'd ask..

Do more research, from what I've heard and read your gonna need something a lot bigger than a 120Gal. A friend of mine has a 220gal and is now getting rid of his RTC cause he's out grown it,told him he needs to go out back and dig a pond(seriously)... But I'd definitely do more studying before committing to such a large or soon to be large fish

If you want a cool cat that can live in a 120 for a while, look up Megaladoris Irwini.

Awesome armored cat that maxes out at around 24".

That thing is amazing... I'll do some research on those for a few weeks and see if I can get ahold of one. Thanks for the idea.

NP, when i saw one I had to have it too. They arent the most active, but beastly when older.

They are like a better looking Ripsaw that doesnt get 4' long.
