120g Big enough for Redtail Catfish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
An irwini for a 120g? Got the impression the op wasnt going to upgrade.

My thought too. Yes they grow slow but a 1.5' wide tank is too small even for a 1' sub-adult IMHO, not to mention the 2' adult.

Snookn21 on aquabid carries them almost all the time but, again, if there is no plan to upgrade, I'd stick to cats that do not grow longer than 1/2 the width of your tank. There are those who fervently disagree and profess such a catfish can be as long as their tank's wide. You make a decision.

Nope sorry even gettin a small one he would out grow it within 8 months at most. And would deffintley eat all of your tank mates stick to smaller stuff and maybe go for a sun cat instead

X2 best advise for a "other cat" and I agree anything that's going to push much past 12" fully grown is not only going to be to big for a 120 long-term but also be a HUGE stress on your filtration systems/water quality

I thought my 120 was a huge tank .. now I think my 1000 gallon pool is to small to house everything I want... "Big cats" need "Big Tanks"

And Gar being my main passion.. do not do well with anything remotely silver/fast swimming in general, it can and will be eaten or shredded.
