120g filtration - your thoughts?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have around 30 fish in my 75 gallon (mucho overstocked). I use one Marineland Canister C-530 and the water is crystal clear and nice flow. I will also be adding two (40 gal) hydro sponge filters one on each side and eventually I plan on getting another 530 canister. 530 gph is not as strong as I thought it would be. I figure double the filtration will give me peace of mind until I get another tank to put the big boys in.

Is this that plant ? A bit pricy $70

That's the plant but they're charging you for the way it's set up. You can get a regular one for $10.

I see pothos all over the place for cheap. It's just not always clearly labeled, but it is one of the most commonly sold house plants. JK47 kind of started this trend on MFK (to my knowledge, I'm sure he's not the first but he's featured a few threads on it). He has begun sticking lots of different house plants in his tank in the same fashion and all of them are growing absolutely massive. They even grew to the point that they popped off his siliconed 3D background on his little tank!

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think this plant has two subspecies (maybe more as some are green and some varigated) but one goes up and one cascades down. I think the cascading ones are more available but the others they train up like the one in the picture. I had one as a plant and it just refused to cascade so I threw it out. I have a huge one of these in my office so I think I will just take cuttings today. Yeah!

Also, thanks for all the help with filtration. I have some good ideas where to go next.

I forgot the wife has one of these in our kitchen until I read this thread. Since it needs a trimming I might has well hop on the bandwagon.

It's the same plant. You can train it to go up or you can just leave it to fall down.

Hi all.

I have a 4 foot 120g with a FX5. At this time most of the fish are juveniles. Here is the stocking:.....................................................................................
.......................................P.S. I do 10-20 percent water changes and vacuuming weekly

Add two Aqua Clear 101's to the tank..............AC 101 is the perfect mechanical filter for any tank that has a large body of water between 100-180g.............A pair of these HOB's will polish a 120-125 perfectly................I run a pair of AC101's on my 125.....All I clean once a mouth is the sponge...............

Pothos plants should only cost a few bucks, certainly less than $10 for a moderately sized specimen in a plastic pot. Supermarkets usually carry them too. In fact, if a store carries any plants at all, they will at some point carry pothos.

How do you add the plant to the water, just let it float ? Or do we have to stick the roots into the substrate ?
