Idk everyone has different taste man, maybe some oscars work for some, others may enjoy schooling fish like clown loachs with tinfoils etc I found its easier to visit a few LFS see what u like
Ok thanks I am thinking of my jack dempsey a jag or maybe a frontosa. I also want an oddball fish but don't know what to get

Mixing South American cichlids with African cichlids sounds like a bad decision considering their different care requirements...
I personally would not mix a frontosa with the others, I have seen it done but the frontosa did not seem to enjoy it much. A jag and jd would work nice Currently keeping my Jag with oscars which is also nice .
Maybe you can keep a group of blue botia because those are aggressive enough to hang with the big cichlids.
What about a nice large pleco like a royal or something?
A pair of Silver Datnoids should go nice as well!

I like the silver dats, can I house them with my jd and a jag or leave out the jag and just get the dats
