125 Gallon Biotope

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No, not yet. There was a mix up with the order and they will not be in until Tuesday supposedly, so I am still waiting. I will get pics up as soon as I get them in the tank. So were you thinking that BHT's would be a good addition? I saw that Petsmart had them on sale for $1 a peice when I was in there the other day.

New? Lets see.....I purchased some Amazon Swords and got them set up. I think it looks pretty good. I also got a Rena canister filter set up and it seems to be working pretty well. For some reason my water is a little cloudy today, so I am trying to see if it will clear before I take any pics.

Wow you're lucky to have BHT's available at that price! I wish my PSmart had some right now. I think having a good sized school in there would be worth the risk even though I'm not sure if the Pcats will prey on them or not.

I'm looking forward to seeing the live plants in your tank, no more fake ones right? Make sure your water parameters are safe before you get your new fish in. What caused the cloudiness? Was it from the filter's media?

All parameters are good. I'm hoping it is just something I didn't get rinsed off well enough that is in my canister. I have the foam pads, ceramic rings, pot scrubbies, purigen and a polishing pad. I rinsed everything in dechlorinated water before I hooked everything up. I am going to do a PWC tonight and see if that helps. Without the light on you can't even tell there is a cloud, it is a very slight one, but I think that drives even more crazy.

I think I might pick up a few BHT and see how it goes.

I have also been in contact with a guy that has a video on youtube of a tank like mine with Saums, Tapajos, Pcats and various Cory cats. He gave me some on setting up the tank. He said that everyone lived very peacefully in the tank, but it depends on the personality of the fish (which is what we thought anyway). He said he had successful spawns from both species!

Just sounds like a bacterial bloom due to the new media. I have had a few myself! It should clear up in a few days, once thw bacteria colonise. Its not harmful so don't worry!

You are lucky to find them at that price they are £4 around me, which is what $6?

Its good to hear that someone else has done the combo. I had though of adding some sand sifters to my tank, like one of the two satonoperca species native to peru, or even the only geophagus (cannot remmeber sp.) or even biotodoma cupido - except they are quite fragile and slow growing. But I think the TGTs are far too aggressive, combined with the more compacted footprint!

I would definately concur that corries are a great addition! I haven't ever purposefully fed mine, they just feed off scraps and have grown loads! They shoal also, which I love! They aren't a possible threat to other fish either which is a bonus!

Panda, Skunk and Bronze are a few native to peru (just for your benefit).

Its good to see it all coming along :)

Sweet, now you know for sure that your goal is attainable :D

Did he mention anything about the water temperature? I think 75-78 would be the ideal range for your stock.

Could you post up this youtube video?

Thanks guys for all of the intrest! I currently have the tank at 77-78 degrees. I think that will be the perfect place for it.

I will post the vid after I get home. He has a lot of fish, in that tank, like 30 cory's and a few other fish I am not familiar with. But I am really glad he had success with the Geos and GT's.

Grant I think you might be right on the TGT's and the Geos but you never know until you try.

Oh......I have new additions, pics to follow.

Ok, so I picked up 6 BHT today. Regular price was supposed to be $26.38, I got them for $6.38 lol. I think they look really good. The Pcats have not bothered them yet, so hopefully that continues. Here are some pics.

What a steal! I love their colors. I hope you'll get a big school of them if all goes well. Plants are looking good too, I'm sure they'll take over the tank in no time :D The ones in the left and right corner are still fake huh?

The water does appear to be a bit cloudy, or is that just the camera?

Thanks for putting up the video. The fish look nice, it's too bad the lighting doesn't help show their true colors! The whole tank looks brown, IMO, and it's a bit crowded in there for my preference but this is probably why it's possible.

Keep the updates coming!
