Your welcome bro! We scored with those Gnathonemus Petersii, I've never seen them in our area at that size for sale, they're huge. You got a smokin deal too... I couldn't believe that guy gave me a genex pump!! Now we just need to get you an SA cichlid or two. ;)

I have no clue how we are going to cut that wood?? It needs cuts too long for my chop saw. I think we're gunna have to go the hand tool rote unless anyone has a different idea?

I was thinkin hack saw :D

Yeah, got a good deal on those EN's, and I would have paid the sticker price for them too... basically only paid for 2 of the 3 for the price. They are doing well, but are kind of A-holes... but my clown loaches are still the bosses of that tank, I just don't know if the EN's have figured that out yet.:screwy:

I would highly recommend moving the intake of the Fx5 higher above the sand. Might help the filter last longer.

speaking of Sand, that sand you chose looks FANTASTIC!

nice tank, I like the idea of PVC pipe for hiding places

any reason you have your heater vertical, ive always read(and I know 90%is false lol) that its better horizontal since the sensor is at the top.

Thanks, but the sand is really heavy, and all my fish are bottom dwellers, so the intake really needs to be low to be effective. Maybe I will place a small screen on the intake, but I've taken my filter apart since it's been up and running and never noticed a trace of sand.

The heater is run on a controller with a separate temp probe in the tank... you can see it if you look above and to the left of the heater... the output blows water in the direction, so I set the heater up like that... a 200 watt heater is keeping that tank at a steady 80 degrees so I don't see a problem with it. :naughty:

Great thread to read over, Clockwork. It's good to see you linked up with a MFK'r locally as well and you're helping each other out. Looking at the driftwood, my first thought for cutting it was a Sawzall with a 12" wood cutting blade. Even if the dw is thicker than 12", you can make it in two cuts no problem.

I like the way the tank is set up and can't wait to see it up and running with the plants and fish at their potential. The only problem I found with the thread- your camera phone pics don't do the tank any justice. When the tank is fully operational and stocked, you have to borrow a camera for some clearer shots. :) I like the setup and keep up the progress.

:grinno:

Thanks. I totally agree on the camera. I just have no reason to buy a decent camera, I never take pictures of anything, and don't even like getting my picture taken! I will see if I can borrow something.

Still trying to figure out if the wood is going to sit like it is in the picture, or flip it on its side so the it looks like a tree stump.

Lol, I'm the same way, I don't own my own camera. Why would I need a camera? lol

I like the driftwood exactly as it's shown in the picture. I feel like if you stood it up, it would not look as good, and you would lose all that bottom area that seems to be loaded with hiding spaces for the Clown loaches. IMO of course.

oh ok that makes since, I may have to look for a controller at a later date

That titanium heater came with a controller... it is called an Aqua Heat, was about $30 for the 200w...

Yes, I am calling a meeting with the clown loaches later today to discuss the project further... client satisfaction is the priority here. Clown loaches are very particular.
