Could buffer the water with some crushed coral in the filter though.

He could but is much easier not adding extra stuff and regularly measuring the GH of the tank water. All it takes is for him to forget about measuring, and then wonder why the JD does not look so well, and end up spreading the sickness to the other fish.

Agreed, I want to keep things simple. I and my future fish really appreciate everyone's help.

What is the best reference for water hardness? Most sites I read conflict. As a web developer It makes me want to start my own fish reference site.
