125 Gallon Tank Stocking

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think a Jag and a Flowerhorn would fight too much in a 125. My jag was pretty nasty in his 120. The other fish get pretty big. I would stick with maybe three of them.

I have my jag and flowerhorn in their 30g right now and they do not fight at all.

i assume this is the same jag that nearly killed an oscar and went "gangster" on your JD?
i also notice from your proposed stocking that you want to throw that poor oscar in with the jag that nearly killed it again as well as in with a new monster (the FH btw) that is far outside an oscars aggression league and will probably succeed in killing it before the jag does.

if it is the same jag then its not that big. how large is the FH?
you do know FH generally turn into tank killers as they mature, so fighting wont be an issue for the minute. they are probably at a stale mate while they are both juvies but the minute the FH gets the slightest bit larger, its probably game over for your 125g stock.

from what ive read about both, you will be lucky to get the jag and FH living together peacefully never mind throwing in more fish which your FH will probably see to.

P-bass will outgrow the tank
Oscar will get bullied
Jag's will be jags.. you'll either get lucky or you won't.
FH's are just asking for trouble.
Dat- idk enough about these to comment.

the problem i see is your stock-list will be fine... until they sexually mature and start roping off territories.. which is pretty much reiterateing whats already been said to some degree. you may get lucky w/ some of this mix.. but imo the tank would be overstocked where you to put all of these fish in a 125. it's a matter of aggression more so then size in the overstocking from what I see. If you do try it.. be prepared to seperate fish out.

if you know they are problem fish for your proposed setup then why did you buy them?
your 30g is heading to be a one fish tank when either the jag or FH snaps at being so cramped.

you were already given advice about your stocking in 2 previous threads and yet you still went out and bought more aggressive fish to jam into your tiny and already overstocked tanks. you received good info and advice in both those threads and you continue to ignore that advice.
people arent saying things to get on your nerves, they are trying to help you give appropriate homes to your pets and provide the best possible care. if you listen to the advice given then you would also save money.

If they are both in a 30 that means that they are still young and small. When they get older and larger, things may change. No matter what, with that list you will have some aggression issues sooner or later. I think that the Oscar will be the first to suffer. You have some nice fish on your list. I hope you find a successful balance that makes both you and the fish happy.

I would suggest, one of your pleco's, the oscar, dat, firemouth, con and JD for your 120.

Or just the jag in the 120, the FH is going to need its own 75 they really are just better off on their own, and I dont know enough about gar's to tell you anything about them but from what little I know they arent so great at being community fish in small tanks.

I have two jags with two mayan cichlids, the largest jag being 5" but they seem pretty calm, may just depend on the personal fish. Also, I'm sure to give him planty of food so he won't eat the other jag that is about half his size
