125 gallon with PBASS

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Why is everyone letting Makoa ruffle their feathers? Here is a person saying that they know and understand the space requirements based on the growth rate of peacock bass, but is knowingly stunting them because he doesn't want them that large.

This is the type of person that is set in their way, fish be damned. No point trying to talk sense into him or argue about it further.

as i am new to this pbass world..i have a 72 gallon bow front n right away i knew i needed a bigger tank..125 will only work for so long..understanding some may not be able to offord a bigger tank..my best advice i can give is save up until u can get a bigger tank then buy some pbass..if i could start over i would have saved up then bought a bigger tank n everything i needed..once i had everything then i would have bought pbass..pbass owners take pride in thier fish..you can put pbass in a 125 but i highly suggest getting a bigger tank down the line..i dident know anything when i got my 1st pbass..everything i kno now i learned from this site..dont take it as everyone is attacking you..its just advice coming from the pros..i thank everyone on here who taught me everything i kno..my set up is crap lol..but with help/advice my new set up will b awsome..thats just my in put..

Sorry, I'm a little late to the party. I for one am the type of person to humanize my animals. It is very cruel to keep full grown Cichla (unless they are a southern small variant) in a 125,150, or even a 300 gallon. This is the equivalent of a person (you) living in a 8'X6' in your own feces. Hopefully 50% of that feces gets cleaned twice a week but I've seen many keepers tanks and I can promise you that doesn't happen in most cases. These fish eat a lot and I mean a lot if you can't afford the proper set up for this fish how could you afford to feed them. My fish cost for at least $30 a week in fresh seafood, $55 a month in NLS pellets, and $20 a month in live feeders. I would recommend wait until your finances have changed so you can give these fish the dignity they deserve.

Whose feather's am I trying to ruffle up? I've just been giving my opinion. There are varieties of different members on this site and no one should be able to tell them what they should do unless they have a question. I gave my opinion and as we can see some people agree with me and the animal activist/ PETA lovers don't. Can't make everyone happy.

they can when someone's making idiotic suggestions to keep cichla in a 100g tank. there's already enough bad info on the web, dont need any more of it. hopefully people have the common sense to do the right thing. and what's with the PETA remarks? not only is it off-base, its annoying too.

There ain't no PETA, animal rights weirdos on this site. PETA/ animal rights people don't keep fish in aquariums.

Like i said boys Jose- hill billy -Apriarider -Hayn and others are right !!!! here i have my bass in a 180 growout the largest is 11 inches as i have said before and i am starting to see things i don't particularly like starting to happen !! I can afford a bigger tank right now I also have several other tanks including another 180 to spread my guys for a while ....I am looking for a bargain big tank or i will make my own the simple fact is you can only keep cichla COMFORTABLY in a smaller tank for a year or two from Fry then things that you don't want to start happening for sure...And it would be a shame:(Bottom line though any fish except feed i am sure rather be in a river but i choose to keep fish .......

Yes, there are a variety of different members on the site and you are one of the :newbie:s. And the people you are referring to as animal activists/PETA lovers are far from it, they are actually responsible fish keepers (unlike yourself.) And what others have said are true, you know little about certain fish until you have experience raising them to FULL GROWN adults, which will be impossible in your tiny fish tank.
