So my 125g tank is finally up and running. I had to reseal this tank, as it was my brothers and it blew a seam (front left). Well I stripped all the silicone out, cleaned it well, and used enough silicone to seal about 4 125g tanks :grinno:

I build the stand for it (no doors yet), built a "light strip" for my two 36" LED light strips, and converted a 30g tank into a sump. I finally got my pumps in the mail, and got everything plumbed. I filled it up, and whaddya know, the damn thing ain't level. So I empty it out, and my dad and I lift the entire thing (with the help of a crowbar) about an inch off the ground so my gf can place these felt pads under the bottom to level it. Amazing how much the tank, stand, and sump way even when there's no water:eek:

Soooo, now its level. I fill it back up, and get everything running. It's going smoothly, except that the overflows sound like I installed the Niagara Falls in my living room :irked:.

I tried several things, but ultimately stuck a short (1.5") piece of airline tubing into one of the holes drilled in the top of the standpipe. This was apparently where the problem was, because it almost instantly quieted down to a more reasonable level. The only problem is that it will run nice and quiet for about a minute, then start to build up a little louder, then a little more louder, etc, until it reaches a high point, and then it drops off to almost nothing again. It just repeats this, and I have no idea how to fix it. I think I can live with it, but if anyone has any suggestions, I'd really appreciate them.

I've included some pics of the setup and sump. Let me know what you think.

Lastly, I was planning on leaving this running for at least 2-3 days to let any kinks show up, then transferring media from an existing sump to this one to "instantly" cycle it. Then I would transfer the fish. Does that sound ok? Can/should I do it sooner? Do you think I need to wait longer? it's been running since saturday night now, and no leaks or issues with the sump or pumps, just a little noisier than my other tank.

I don't know what to tell you on your questions but just had to say that's some really creepy looking driftwood.

I would get any problems you want to fix over with before the fish are in, it makes it less stressful.

沉木的造型很漂亮 木质地的灯架很新颖!是自己DIY的吗? 期待鱼进缸后的图片

請你打英文所以大部分的人看的懂. (Please type English so the other people can understand).

He says he likes the driftwood and the light fitting. He also asks if it is DIY and is waiting for the fish to be put in.

Can you take some pics of what you have setup inside the overflows, Thats probably where the sound is coming from. There are a bunch of different ways to quiet it down, but we need to know what you have in there to move forward.

I like that piece of driftwood too :) Hopefully the fish will like it as well.

I'll try to take some after work tonight. It's pretty much a basic standpipe. It's not set up how I would have done it (my brother is the one who did the plumbing), but it does work ok. he used two 90* elbows on top of the standpipe, with 2 holes drilled in the top to allow it to siphon. The problem appears to be that the water level is getting high enough to slurp into these holes. When I added the short pieces of airline tubing, it helped immensely, but it still isn't as quiet as I would like.

Should I put a short piece of tubing in each of the holes, so that water can't slurp down any of them (I tried adding another hole in each, at the highest point possible, but it didn't help any)?

Should I turn off the pumps and lower the water level so that I can silicone all of the holes closed except for the one with the tubing?

Like I said, I'll try to post some pics up after I get home from work today...

Sounds like a Durso-style standpipe. They tend to do that if the flow isn't just right. My 150 did the same thing. could be related to the air holes that are drilled in it, or it could just be that the overflow pipes just plain flow ore water than your pump. You might beable to put a valve on the overflow to restrict it a bit. That would help in the swings in water level.

DOH! There is a ball valve on the drain line I'm having issues with. I'll have to play with it to see if restricting the flow a little bit helps any.

Let us know how it works out.
