125g fish tank up and running...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
There are 3 levels of slots, BUT, there is an inner sleeve that doesn't have any slots in it, so the water level will never get below that. The slots I guess are supposed to pull water from all 3 levels, but the water then moves up between the two walls of the overflow and flows over the top.

The only way the water level will drop below that inner wall is if the power goes out and the siphon from the return tubes drops it lower.

I would not cut off the 90. i would cover one of the holes in the stand pipe top. And in the other put a piece of air line tubing in the pipe and push it in the pipe maybe 10'' or so. And on the end put a air valve. start the tank up and adjust the valve to let the overflow have some air but not enough to make it gurgle. And then once you get it as quiet as you can then you can adjust the length of the air line inside the pipe. This will give you a pretty silent tank. Another thing you can do is have the sump inlets go under water to silence them.---------------------i hope this helps. If my camera was not broken i would take some pictures and show you. ------------BTW that drift wood is awesome. Where did you find that? Remember i am local. lol

I think I will try that first tonight, rather than cutting off the 90.

If you're talking about the real thin, branchy one, I got it at Feeders Supply on Shelbyville Rd (near the malls). It wasn't cheap, but it is an awesome piece of driftwood.

The big trunk like piece I found on the side of the road. If there's one thing the storm from January did, it made plenty of scrap wood for putting into fish tanks.... :D

Well, I forgot to pick up the air valves, and I can't get the damn thing any quieter without them.

The sump inlets are under water. I'm going to run out and try and find some airline valves real quick. If that doesn't work, I think I'll just accept it for now and go ahead and transfer fish to the tank. it's annoying, but its not really affecting the functionality of the tank any, you know? Besides, my girlfriend says its not that bad, I'm just being obsessive (her words, not mine).

If anyone has any other ideas (besides cutting pieces off- if I'm going to start cutting, I might as well redo the entire standpipe plumbing), feel free to suggest them to me.

Woohoo! Finally figured it out! It took a combination of plugging all but one hole in each overflow, then putting a 6 inch length of tubing down one overflow (the left one), and leaving one hole empty and open on the right overflow. Then I had to get the piece of tubing on the left overflow adjusted to the right height so that neither of the overflows make any sucking noise.

It's still a little noisy, but that's just because the stand doesn't have doors, and there isn't a full hood on the tank. Once I add both of those, it ought to be as quiet as my other 125g tank (which you can barely tell is running even standing in the same room).
