I currently have the money to get either the shrimp or the gobies and cories. Not sure which to get. I currently can't find a place that sells the gobies and cories that has them in stock, but I want to wait to see if they get a few in. On the other hand I also want to get my Dream Blue Velvet and Crystal Red Shrimp colonies going. I know I could buy the shrimp now and wait for an online store to get a few gobies and cories in stock, but I don't know if I'll have the money to buy the gobies after I get the shrimp. I don't know which to get first...

Ohhhhhhh... tough call...

So i'll start by saying if you mix CRS and Blue Velvet shrimp chances are they will cross breed and you'll end up with hybrid shrimp, which depends if you mind or not...

However, if you start with the shrimp first, you have a chance to build a strong colony before getting fish in there...

The other way would be to start off with say only say 3 Female CRS and maybe 2-3 Male CRS and give them time to breed, then hopefully that means you still have some cash incase the gobies pop up...

Angelphish Angelphish I agree with this, plus shrimp colonies will always get my vote :P

Lots of anubias. I have some mini versions to grow out :p

Shrimp can revert to wild state if crossed I think

If you cross shrimp you get hybrids not wild state...

For them to go back to wild state, you would need the same species in the tank and never cull the lower quality shrimp, then eventually you'll find quality dropping back to wild state rather than getting better in color...

For example i know some shrimp breeders cull hundreds of shrimp every 2-3 momths if their quality aint up to standard..

Blue velvets are Neocaridina and CRS are Caridina. They shouldn't be able to hybridize.

Shrimp are very expensive at all of my lfs's, so I plan to order them online. I can only buy 5 or 10 shrimp online, but not numbers in between like 6. I plan to buy a couple CRS from my lfs to make sure my tank is ready for them, but I don't want to start a colony using lfs shrimp.

I have to buy 10 shrimp of both species to guarantee that I have males and females. If I buy 5 online and I only have one sex, then I have to buy more, and pay for shipping again.

These are Dream Blue Velvets. One of the best looking Neocaridina imo.
