135g Centralish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Really nice tank OP! I would add more livebarers. Killifish would be interesting. I am not sure which species or what will work.

Thanks - I am trying to look into killifish but of the central american ones I can find, they are quite drab in comparision to the South American ones. Unless anyone can help point some out?

Have to admit, I didnt realise quite how hard it would be to have other cichlids with these when I got them. I got them with suggestions of keeping Nics or Rheoheros with them but I dont think it will be possible now.

I will see how they grow and how I continue to feel about them but the more I try and read into CA cichlids the more Im being torn into wondering if I have made the best choice...

Hi Netengo ,
Your tank looks great as do the fish.
I love the nanos, and to be honest I think they will do just fine as the only cichlids in the tank.
If you do add more cichlids, the longer you wait the harder it may be to introduce more.
I would be patient and source some of the biotope correct non cichlid fishes you are seeking.
The tank looks great and as the nanos put on more size,I think you will have a lovely set up.

Thanks Stanzzz really appreciate it :) Im hoping to get some leaf litter and a bit more wood in there. I need to find some floating plants as well.

I think if I could find a single cichlid I could keep alongside them I would be quite happy - if I was doing SAs I would say something like a kind of Severum would be perfect but I dont know what the CA version would be though.

I've been looking through lists on Fishbase of fish in CA countries - found a few more schooling species and also a knife fish that does not get too massive - would be quite interesting to get but not sure how feasable.

thanks Andy

Little bit of an update on this tank.

I've been using my Pozzani Nitrate filter for a few weeks now, its a bit time consuming but I think I can speed it up with some tests. Its taking me about an hour and a half to do a water change vs before, which was about 20 mins.

I picked up a few small floating plants today which I have managed to wedge in to avoid them getting thrown around by the filters. Im looking for some more massive wood to bring in from the top on the left.

Fish wise, the Nanos are doing pretty well and I have spotted a few young Mollies, hopefully the foating plants will do good. My problem at the moment is that the Nanos are picking on one of my Flagtail Catfish quite a bit, keeping an eye on it but not sure what to do long term, its only been the last few days though.

For the future of the tank I still want some Montazuma Swords and I have found that Spotted Hatchetfish are found in some CA countries so I want to find a decent sized school of them as well which should look pretty good.

thanks Andy

Hey man, glad to hear tank is coming along a bit. I was not aware that the spotted hatchets could be found in CA, just googled it and you are right, they have them in panama! Might have to copy your idea there.
Have you given up on other cichlids? The nanos alone in there will look great, though I do think if you wanted to you could probably keep another species that was on the docile side.

Thought I would update on this tank :) no new fish but I have had the Nanos for about 6 weeks now

Really hard to get a good photo of them displaying to each other as they either run away or they come and beg for food. They have really coloured up now and some of the females are nearly as neon yellow as I was hoping. I have two females that go at it a bit but I think should be ok, the males all get on though and I have an other 2 females that do their own thing as well.

The floating parts in the water are air bubbles, I dont know why but I just get a lot of them off my filters, but I quite like it :)

thanks :)

No real pairs yet but there is one male and female I catch hanging out together quite a bit but no displaying or digging etc

What do people think about me adding a pair of Andinoacara Coeruleopunctatus with these guys?

thanks Andy
