That's what I suspect but I'm literally limited to 3 weeks experience with these guys!

It's something about the lack of markings on the anterior sides and in the dorsal & anal fin that make me feel that way.

The two fish I believe are males (the one with the beginnings of s hump in the earlier photos) just seem to have more & brighter colours.

This one is certainly the most surly of the 3 fish I believe to be females though - which is throwing me off a bit.

I may have lucked out and wound up with 3 females and 2 males - which means I only have to re-home one male eventually. (Assuming my harem works).

Here's a group shot. The male likes to pose but the females are always moving.

And here is the sun-dominant male with the sunken belly;

About half an hour before these photos I added the second treatment of API General Cure. For the last two days I've been soaking their food in a solution of distilled water and Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate).

Hope it works. I've never witnessed any white stringy poop, but I figure it's better to be safe than sorry.

If the supposed sub-dominant male turns out to be female I want it to be healthy. If it's another male I'd like it to be parasite free before trading it in or selling it to another hobbyist.

Just an LFS. He brought in 12 and I took 5 off his hands the day they came in. Basically from the box to my bucket and home. I don't know which distributor he used - I don't think they are wild caught or anything like that.

Since they aren't locally bred I would assume they are from a fish farm - but now you've got me curious. I'm going to find out...

Thanks Stanzzzz. If everything ends up looking half as nice as your old set-up I will be thrilled!

I'm considering hooking up one of my extra sunblaster lights for 4 hours or so a day to help get the valisnaria growing good. I know from past experiences that once it reaches the water surface I can reduce the lighting and it will still thrive. I just have to get it started! But I prefer a dimmer tank.

Thats not a bad deal though. My LFS never really has anything besides oscars and africans when it comes to cichlids. Most likely ill be buying from online. Found out Jeff Rapps is from jersey where I am which I never knew until yesterday lol

Would still love to know where your came from! pretty interesting stuff
