Ok, so I worked from home today and set myself up so I could watch my tank from a distance of about 12 to 15 feet away. Far enough that the fish don't notice me and act more natural.
Some observations:
1. Bruce is either eating, looking for food to eat, or hanging out with the other female. That's how he spends his time.
2. Leia has excavated a massive pit with smaller pits inside the pit. She moves the wriggler from small pit to small pit, all within the confines of the big pit.
3. She'll charge half way across the tank to take a run at Ventress (the second female GT). Then dart back to the pit.
4. She does not bother Bruce. He can come close to the pit and Leia will pop out, see it's him, then relax and go back to whatever she is doing. Bruce has not tried to enter the pit though. I think he knows that there is only "responsiblity" waiting for him in there, so he avoids it.
When I approach the tank the three GT's kind of stop what they're doing and watch me. I use my finger as a lure and trace it down the glass to make Bruce get close to the spawning pit, to see if anything will happen, but Leia leaves him alone.
I don't think these guys have the strongest pair bond. I don't know if that's a bad thing though? Because Bruce seems preoccupied with trying to get the second female to spawn, he leaves Leia alone.
Because there are no other real threats in the tank it appears that they don't feel the need to terrorize everything else.
So far so good. But even so, yesterday Leia wasn't leaving her pit at all. Now she'll leave it to chase Ventress. The aggression could still kick up a notch, but so far so good.
It's actually pretty harmonious at the moment.
Fingers crossed.
