I picked up this gar approx 1-2 months ago.
I believe it was in the early stages of lymphocystis when I received, but since treatment, shows no signs of the virus. There were never any ill effects from it, but I removed one lesion for aesthetic purposes. I have included pictures. This fish has been with many other fish of different families (clown knife, oscars, etc) and those fish have NOT contracted the virus.

Lymphocystis does show some host-specificity, i.e., each strain (or species) of lymphocystis can infect only its primary host fish, or some additional closely related, fish.
