FINWIN FINWIN This particular system is around 1000 gal - two 240 gal tanks and a 500 gal sump. Old soaked/washed concrete is benign in a large water system with 100% water change in 3-5 days 24/7/365 I think. In a small tank, it could be a different story.

One time is a fluke, two is a pattern. We lost Floyd the same way as Bruce, except Floyd lasted about 10 months versus a couple for Bruce. Same symptoms of heavy swelling over the entire body points to the same pathogen, perhaps the same old columnaris introduced into our tanks in 2018. Three year old, 1ft Floyd:

Here is a pic of one of my plecos and a geo with the same issue. These issues seemed to be caused by a bacterial infection and poor water quality. Fixed the whole tank with 3 rounds of antibiotics and a bunch of water changes.

T tigerhouse thank you for this. Cichlids usually feature badly swollen lips too. In any case, this looks like an extreme swelling on the pleco part, very much like we have been seeing here since 2018 over 4 years with great many diverse fish. Looking at our perished 1.5ft umbee cichlid duanes duanes suggested it could be columnaris.

Can't keep fh. This female was donated by Greghalf a year ago or less. Thrived really well then got sickly - fungus on much of body - died in a few weeks:
