14 Gallon Biocube Reef Tank with Updates

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I haven't seen any crabs yet, but I've seen a snail, Amphipods, Feather Duster, bristleworm, and a little thing that I have no idea what it is

Clown Goby Died... It was a rookie mistake... The heater accidentally unplugged one night... the tank got down to 60 degrees... Poor little clown goby... but I got diatoms but those went away... now I have a lot of green algae and a little bit of red algae... I'm hoping soon I'm going to go get snails, hermit crabs, and maybe an emerald crab

Thats tough. Good to hear the diatoms bloom is over. Now on to the hair algae it sounds like. As far as the red algae, it is most likely cyanobacteria and can be limited by increasing flow to the problematic area.

Yeah, it's green hair algae... and that makes sense with the Cyanobacteria (Awww, makes me think of my Eretmodus Cyanostictus... I miss my 55 gallon tank) the Algae is on the back rock which is right underneath the pump output... I have a question... what are the best inverts (Snails, Crabs, Nudibranches, urchins, etc.) to take care of the green hair algae? And any Algae, for that matter?

Today, I got part of my clean up crew:

3 Red-Legged Hermit Crabs
3 Cerith Snails
3 Nassarius Snails
1 Emerald Crab

I also got a new fish:
1 True Percula Clownfish

Some other things I picked up:

1 Pound of dry rock
Frozen Mysis Shrimp

Finally have movement back in my tank

It's the one month birthday of the fish tank... Everything is still alive... Percula Clownfish are a really awesome fish... He never stops swimming... Not sure what I'm going to do from here... I think the next thing I will add will either be a coral or another fish... For a coral I'd want a mushroom... then for a fish Sixline Wrasses or a Cardinal... I will get more snails, cleaner shrimp, and maybe some more hermit crabs... I'm really glad that I got into a Saltwater fish tank

DJM, come check out my stuff.

I have a lot of softies I am looking to get rid of, I would give you a good bulk price on everything.

Glad to see we have another wisconsin reefer!

Thanks for the offer, but I'm out of money for a while... Need gas (Chevy Truck is running on a fourth of a tank now)... Need to save $400 for my Grand Canyon Trip in March... and I still need to get more inverts

Speaking of, Came home today after school (No school tomorrow! Gotta love this Blizzard coming this way) saw that one of my cerith snails was on the rock so, intrigued, decided to watch him... Yeah, wasn't one of my cerith snails... Stupid Hermit Crab killed one... But I must say he does look better with his new home

I can wholesale some inverts your way...but you would have to meet me somewhere near my airport.

The hermits will do that. I would look into the mini skimmer and the mini UV light that goes into the filter in the back of the tank if you are going to do corals. If you you dont like the mini skimmer that is made for the tank there are some others that i heard fit in the same compartment like the Aquaticlife internal mini protein skimmer 115 or the Hydor koralia nano skimmer.
