  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I believe my local vet charged me $55 when I took 2 turtles in, had stool sent to a lab, and got deworming injections for both for tapeworms.

It's not very expensive, and if you can't afford the vet, you can't afford the pet.

well if its only that much ill be alrite.just dont wanna take him to the vet if the only thing wrong with him is that hes stressed

well i know i havent been on in a couple days..the sick turtle is still doin the same things.i saw her eat a few pellets one time.but yesterday i added a new addition to the pond :) i was on my way back from my lfs and i almost smashed a turtle in the middle of the road..it was a very nice and healthy male eastern painted turtle with all red markings.hes pretty slick.im probably gonna let him go tho...i feel bad takin him outta the wild

Try to determine if it is a captive or wild turtle. Use your judgement, usually captive turtles will be clean and fat, and wild ones will be dirty and lean.

If it is captive, don't release it. Try to find it's owner and if you can't - enjoy it! If wild, release it close to where you found it.

Do you ever dock your turtles outside for natural sun? We have two RES and put them outside several times a week for a few hours when the weather is warm.

You should take the turt to the vet sooner than later. Have you tried giving it medicated turtle food? they have it at petsmart. i am not sure that would do the trick...

We feed our RES 's romain lettuce almost every day, they love watermelon, rasberries, turtle pellets almost every day or other day also. RES's are mostly vegetarians...

Get a reptisun 5.0 + heat source if you havent yet also..

My bigger RES had shell rot or something really bad when i got her from a freind, she was WAY too big for her crappy little reptisun foam bs dock thing and wasnt getting dry enough or the right kind of lighting...

several years later she is looking healthy and active. she comes up to me on her deck area of her enclosure frequently..

For the outside we let them bask in a kiddie pool with a chicken wire cover to keep them in and the dogs out... Never leave them in a small tub with a small volume of water or YOU WILL COOK THEM IN THE HOT SUMMER SUN posibly.

My setup Filtration is a fluval 404 plus a small intank pond filter. i will post a pic sometime soon. their tank is a 150gal stock tank with a deck... looks kinda lame but they seem pretty well in it.

Also, with your canister filter if nobody has mentioned it yet, be carefull the inlet cover is VERY secure. We had a very frightening accident about a year ago. Our smaller res got sucked into the inlet and almost drowned. he was stuck underwater for an ?? unknown time but fortunatly recovered very well after a day or so.

yes ive taken them all out for some outside time..i dont have a kiddie pool so i just let them run around in the grass for a little while.and as for the turtle i found its deff wild.he freaks out whenever i walk up to the pond, and he is pretty lean.but the thing is is the place i found him i have no idea where he would have came from..the nearest lake from there is probably i mile away and its in a park with alot of people, mostly punk kids, that fish and do bad things to the animals and the park itself.i might try to find a more secluded lake for him
