1400 gallon pond build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
where i live what i stick the tiles on with seals it as well
and i dont know how much it costed my mom and dad pay for it(lucky me)
and my filter is really dumb and it some times starts to leak so if it leaks when im not there the pump will bern out and the fish will still have water
Ohh okay, I see! Do you think you can find out what you use to stick your tile with for me? I'm thinking about demo-ing my pond and building one basically like yours but a little longer. Thanks! It looks great!

Thinset is the usual stuff they use for/under floor tiles, and my wife (architect) tells me it's the standard for tiling pools as well. It's a glorified cement mix of some sort. For pools there's 2 options around here- tiling, as above, which works well but is a little more costly (for pools= bigger), or using something called "Diamond Bright" which is a plasticized hard-render-type material that comes in many colours, but isn't as nice or as durable long-term. Diamond bright can also stain with tannins and/or algae if you don't maintain your pool (or stop chlorinating and add clown loaches), whereas the thinset/grout can be power-washed or scrubbed clean and the tile, well, they're tiles- nothing's going to happen to ceramic tiles.
I love this set-up, young Trinny. Nice, clean & easy. Electricity for this ol' pump is going to be a deal-breaker with the parental-units pretty quick, I'd reckon. Think about setting a couple of submerged planters (1/2'd Angostura barrels are great) with filamentous plants and lilies and a bubbler system to keep everything moving, maybe as a bubble-lift to an exterior (or interior?) sump filter. Then rig the house's storm drains into the pond to get your water changes done hands-off.
Can you tell I've thought about this way way too much?
Keep your mask&snorkel on-hand and post pictures!

so how do u know im trinny and where are u from????
i dont really like to have plants cuz all my fish kill them

It hainna yu profile, Mahyute.

What fish (beyond cats & aro) are you stocking that will eat plants?
See if you can choose plants that won't get eaten- they provide shade (incl. temperature control & light/algae control), O2, remove wastes directly through uptake and indirectly through substrate for bacterial, "condition" water and reduce fish stress through habitat/hides & shading. Plants is good generally, particularly when you've got a relatively low surface area:volume ratio (like you've got here) for gas transfer & unreliable utility companies... as tends to be the Caribbean norm.

dont pacu eat plants
and under the shelf they have some shade hehehe and they have a house next to the pond so they get like no sun light till 12
