I was at my local fish store today and a Perfecto 120g 4x2x2 is $389 Canadian for just the tank. if that helps any for comparisons..

I am thinking now that $400 US for a 150 is about the normal price for brand new..

actually its not. its the opposite.

there is almost no mark up at all.

I used to work in a LFS for years, tanks that cost the store $200 would only sell for maybe 240 or so if that. its not much at all.

tanks are expensive - they are all hand built, heavy and must be shipped by truck all over north america. and that cost is reflected in their wholesale (not retail) prices.

there is very little markup on tanks themselves.

I used to work at the Big Als chain of stores (mainly in canada but now in the US too)

we used to get a discount on everything - except tanks, for this very reason..

I think the 'markup' for used stuff is sometimes worse.

people spend $500 on a new setup, use it for 5 years, claim they spend $1000 on it, and then want $500 back

i dont think its a bad price, but i would much rather go to craigslist and get more for my money with a used-but in good condition tank. but im a tightwad.

keep in mind, Nimb. Venustus get large for africans-since they are haps. i would want the tank to be at least 6 feet long. i have kept venustus before, and i think they will look great in a tank. as they are harem breeders, youll want one or two males with a large group of females.. i think it will look great!

craigslist is the wat to go it might take a few days but you will find something..i got my oceanic 200gal with stand, lights...everything for $500 it had a pond style filter but the pump was bad so bought a filter. after desided aginst rocks/gravle and bought black sand....way better looking..imo. good luck
